the project is for a new build family house in guix borrell, barcelona. the site is on a steep incline, accessed from the upper level and it commands fantastic unspoilt views over the protected collserola forest.
the project further develops ideas of gathering elements of storage and this is expressed in one continuous horizontal element which connects the two storey house.
arrival at the house at the upper level by car or foot necessitates traversing a bridge which not only connects the front gate to the front door, but provides two external parking spaces. the main entrance façade is expressed as a monolith white wall punctured by one single opening. upon entering the house, the storage wall is immediately apparent and is expressed in lacquered yellow panels. a continuous ribbon of glazing allows display of paintings and artefacts, animates the wall of storage as well as provided light to the lower floor and controlled vistas of the landcape.
four double bedrooms are provided at entry level, each enjoying views over the collserola forest. these rooms have individual access through the wall, with bathrooms located at either end, the master bedroom having an ensuite bathroom.
access to the lower level is via the single flight staircase which leads to a vast open plan living area with the dining area at the heart of the house. automated folding shutters doubling as both sun and security screens lift to reveal views over the landscape whilst full height folding sliding glazed doors allow access to the suspended timber deck and swimming pool.
the cellular layout of the upper floor plan is expressed through a single solid white volume whose mass is suspended on a glazed volume at lower level using minimal steel columns to maximise views over the terrace, pool and forest.
