office - sant cugat del valles - barcelona - 2011
the project was to transform an existing space with an available budget of €2000, to create a small office for matchamandgarbi architects.

the space forms part of a series of locals which are located at street level in a predominantly residential area. the design seeks to extend this dialogue with the street by engaging passers-by with the work of the practice. a horizontal viewing slot formed by the strategic placing of opaque film reveals models depicting projects in design stage, construction or completion. each month the display is updated to allow an ever changing dialogue between the practice and the streetscape.

the internal organisation is a simple intervention working with this existing structural building fabric and removing the existing non-structural dividing partition wall to create an open studio whilst retaining the small separate bathroom facility.

to maximise the available north light through the front window, the studio has been painted white throughout with a splash of colour provided by two opposing orange panels which form backdrops to ‘projects in progress’ and ‘projects completed’ from the practice.

the limited budget available encompassed the building works, decorations and simple flat pack furniture and was completed and in use within about 10 days.
